Speech Theme: Family

My fellow companions, I ask you, how important is your family?  Well my family is the most important aspect of my life.  I dedicate this speech to them.
We are five brothers, no sisters and two wonderful parents.
Now we ask ourselves, what is family?   Why are they so important to me?  Let me tell you they are as important to me as God is.
Anyone in your family can make you laugh or feel good.  They have the ability to know how you are feeling and know if something is wrong with you.   My family knows who I am and what I like to do.  They also know when not to bother me.
My brothers are an important part in my life.  They know me better than anyone in the world.  Brothers are there for you when you need them.  They can change your mood from mad to happy or from happy to mad, and still I love them.  We speak English amongst ourselves because we were raised in the United States.
My brothers are not just my brothers, but they are my best friends and guardians.  In problems or in need, they are there to help me and I admire that.  When I feel alone, my brothers are my company.  I am hardly ever bored because my brothers always do things that keep me entertained. Either we make jokes or play basketball or even debate about who is the better team in the NBA between the Boston Celtics and Miami Heat (which of course Boston is). I am thankful to God for my bothers, they are very special.

My parents are a very important part of my life and family.  They gave me everything I ever had and still continue to do so.  I thank God because I am blessed to have parents like them even if they are separated.
I admire them because they have no preference between my brothers and I, everyone is the same.  Everyone is treated with the same respect.  All of us are equal and no one is better than the other.
My parents are hard workers, they work hard to give us everything and expect nothing in return.  I do want to give them a lot of things in the near future because they deserve them and because they mean so much to me.
I remember once when I was sick on a Halloween day and everyone was out trick-or-treating.  My mother had gone out to watch my brothers and I stayed home with my father.  My dad looked at me and painted my face with a lipstick to make it seem as if I were a cat.  Then he took me trick-or-treating close by holding my hand.  This was one of the happiest days of my life and I will never forget it.
Now I’ve talked so long about my family and forgot that I also am part of this family.  Just like my family gives me everything, I give everything to them also.  When my brothers need me, I am there for them.  When my parents need me, I am there for them also.  I am so proud of having this wonderful family. I feel grateful of being a piece of this masterpiece that God gave me.
Not everyone has a great family like mine.  That is why I give thanks everyday to God for giving me what I have today.  I couldn’t ask for anything else.  This is all I need.
This is my family.

My Family

My fellow companions, I stand here today as a young man who has a beautiful family.  I thank them for being there with me until today and for protecting me throughout my life.  I dedicate this speech to them.

Why is it important to go to college?

A lot of people ask thereselves the question, why is it important to go to college?  They think that maybe college is just for people to socialize and party.  But some do not know the real importance of college.  I would say that going to college is good becuase there is more education.  A better knowledge leads to a better future.
When going to college, there is a better chance to be successful in life.  College education is your future and a better future is the one with knowledge.  College can transform you into a better person, even socially.  You can get to know more people and interact with them.  Now we ask ourselves, how can college make my future better?
First of all, with a college degree, there is a higher chance of getting a better job.  Everyone that goes to college has an opportunity for a better job.  Also, college helps you decide the job that you want to get, not the one that you do not want.  This is a chance to take an education that not many people take and they regret.  I know many people that did not go to college and they regret it becuase of the missed opportunity.  So why would you give up this chance?
College here in Puerto Rico does not cost much.  You have a scholarship and almost will not even pay a dime so money is not an excuse to not go to college.  Sure the classes can be hard but that's how you learn.  That's how you are tested to see if you are being educated.  The most important aspect in college is the education you recieve.  Knowledge is the consequence of going to college.
If you want a better job for these hard times, more education and a better future, than college is the place to be.

Affirmative Action

The Affirmative Action topic is similar to our university becuase of the minorities.  The ones who recieve the shcolarships need another shcolarship to pay off the new fee.  We are being see as a majority in the university.  The people who do not recieve the benefits has to pay and that may be unfair.  That would probably cause the person to drop out of the university or blame the other students.

The minority group would be blamed for having the benefits that the others do not have.  The ones who do not recieve the benefits would feel that they are being discriminated.  Also that the government only would benefit the ones who need Affirmative Action.  Many students would feel that this is what most people tend to do.

Affirmative Action takes place everywhere.  People tend to benefit more persons, those who are in a minority group.  They think that those people are in need.  Although most people in minority groups are smarter and intelligent.
